Absurdity Abounds

Voice memos recorded on the road, then animated scene by scene. Two hosts, one red rotary phone, and whatever it is that props up in the ol' mindscape.

Now showing The workshop behind the studio Where Sas plugs into the Simu-tron and Weirdity Ensues gets made.

Situations Unfolded · the switchboard

Memory log

Seven pieces so far, from a shuttle van in 2017 to a commute last September. A new one gets recorded about once a week.

2017

Pants Store

Weirdity Ensues #1

Sas wanders a quiet neighborhood knocking on doors. Frank tells him to get out. Sandra is about to hang her pants out to dry, and Charles couldn't care less. Sas leaves with the pantaloons that later become the H.U.G. pants.

The first piece ever made. Recorded solo on the executive shuttle, between livery trips.

2023

Mental Misdemeanor

Weirdity Ensues #2

Tim drives through the rain with a brand-new windshield and will not stop explaining the rubbery gooey GPS mount that ruined the old one. Includes the Manboy Honey reveal, a $3.50 briefcase deal, and the news that Tim is half dandelion.

Recorded while driving. Forgotten for three years, then rediscovered on May 5, 2026.

2024

Formula Creamstanks

Weirdity Ensues #3

Sas shows up at Frank's screen door, cold, with a briefcase of "the best kind of situations you ever did see."

The first one recorded at home, with a rolling chair and the living-room furniture as props.

2026

Frank the Candlemaker

Situations Unfolded · Ep 1

The pilot. Sas begs Frank to say hello so the sponsors will stay, Frank announces he's getting into the old logistics game, and T.M. calls in from his fleet company.

Recorded on a back road on the way to an IT interview.

Ghost Enrichment

Situations Unfolded · Ep 2

Mr. Ostghay starts talking, Frank's little buddies chew his wiring, and T.M. pitches a plasmic hotel. Sally calls to warn them off. Five parts, 163 shots.

Recorded live with Jack Cheese, the family dog, barking the whole way through.

Cat Coup

Situations Unfolded · Ep 3

Frank is a dog walker now, with a tractor. Mr. McGribbs calls about his dogs, then needs someone to train 50 cats for his complaints call center. The cats take over mid-call.

Recorded in the last 12 minutes of a commute into work.

Rancid Sauce Dreams

Situations Unfolded · Ep 4

Frank gave Sas a sandwich that had gone bad, so this episode is a fever dream and Frank has the mic. Charles and Sandra from Pants Store call in from two lines in the same house.

The first time Weirdity Ensues characters cross into the call-in show.

Hosts, regulars and a dog

The cast

Sas, an iridescent soap-bubble blob with big eyes.
Co-host

Sasaselfran

Sas, Sasas or Saz. A bioluminescent plasma bubble who rolls instead of walking. Earnest, flustered, the show's conscience, and owner of the Simu-tron.

Frank, a gray stone with tired eyes and a rusted-wire mustache.
Co-host

Frank

The calcified version of the same stuff Sas is made of. Rainbow light leaks through his cracks. Always taking care of business.

T.M., an egg-shaped character with goggles and a box with dials.
Recurring caller

T.M.

Also Tim. A nervous entrepreneur with a box for storing situations. The initials stand for something he has never said on air.

Mr. Ostghay, a green wiggly ghost in a pink bow tie.
Studio ghost

Mr. Ostghay

Rolled around quietly for a while, then started talking. His name is Pig Latin for "ghost." Mostly he says "Haunt."

Jack Cheese, a small orange and white dog at a microphone.
Studio dog

Jack Cheese

A real Jack Russell and Chihuahua mix whose real barks are in the recordings. Does his own taxes.

Callers and neighbors, art coming

Sandra & Charles

The married couple from Pants Store. Sandra is sophisticated and loud. Charles is not interested.

Sally

Calls from "the Higgles Brigstig Brihigs" on line 3. Promised a spot on a future episode.

Mr. McGribbs

Owner of Mr. Rufus, Clarky Boy and, briefly, 50 cats who were supposed to answer complaints.
